As the world heats up, many plants and animals are migrating to more temperate areas - which aren't as large as the old territories. In fact, this may, in some places, lead to extinction, if the temperate areas disappear entirely.

I think the real issue here is that people who are in power may have radically different mind sets than those who aren't. I can't presume to know what they do think about (though I guess it has to do with profits and structural maintenance, as it were), but really, I hate to say it, but I do think our civilization may be on the road to suicide by denial.

Ice Shelf Collapse: Within our Lifetimes?

Not that I'm being a climate change downer here, but I don't really care what's causing the climate change - we should be aware that we have it in our power to reverse it, or just stabilize it at some point. As with the Great Barrier Reef dying, I doubt that the international community will care about the Antarctic ice sheet collapsing - until it happens. And then, I expect to see a lot of finger pointing.

I do hope I'm wrong. I do hope that something will be done soon.

More tornadoes and climate change

I think there is definitely a link between extreme weather and climate change. While the USA may have more tornadoes, here in my country, it seems that the pattern and timing of typhoon onset and paths are changing, too. And we're not even talking about their intensity.

I have some ambivalence with this article, but I think if we're going to do something about the changing climate, we have to do it not from the point of view of getting the "warm and fuzzy" high that comes with "do-good-ing", but from a pragmatic, long-view approach to the survival of our species.

The Southern Ocean and Climate Change

Sometimes, science articles read like a good novel:

Already, our world is changing - and unless we find a way to change it to our liking (either through terraforming or long-term positive climate change policies), it looks like our world is getting ready for new inhabitants - not us.

If we want to pave the way to proper climate control, we should look at it as we would a business - we have to make it profitable to switch technologies.

Terraforming Blues

I would think that the best way to test terraforming technologies for other planets would be to bring our own world's environment back to a more stable, comfortable state. If we can create working climate control technologies for our own world, then for sure other worlds wouldn't be that hard to figure out.

Arctice Ice regeneration seems to be slowing down

Now, again, I don't think there should be an argument on if humans started the global climate issue, or if we just made a natural process accelerate. The key thing here is, if we can reverse it with our actions, in order to keep our habitable environment in the best shape for ourselves, then we should act on it. The survival of the species - and our needed natural resources - are paramount.
