Water on Mars

It sounds like something straight out of a science fiction novel: There is water on Mars.

And yet, under the Utopia Planitia region, there is supposedly a reservoir of water ice below the surface, the size of Lake Superior.

Gass Clouds and Embryonic Galaxies

"Astronomers studying a cluster of still-forming protogalaxies seen as they were more than 10 billion years ago have found that a giant galaxy in the center of the cluster is forming from a surprisingly-dense soup of molecular gas."

From the way I understand it, it seems that we're finding a very dense "cloud" of matter in space - and they have embryonic galaxies in them. Exciting!

First look: Exoplanets

"This new instrument is known as CHARIS, an acronym for Coronagraphic High Angular Resolution Imaging Spectrograph. It was built by a team led by N. Jeremy Kasdin, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton. CHARIS features nine mirrors, five filters, two prism assemblies, and a microlens array. It weighs 226.8 kg (500 lbs), and is maintained at -223.15 C (50 Kelvin, -369 F)."

Soon, we may be able to see far-off planets with more clarity.

A Nearly Naked Singularity

It looks like as the years go by, we find out that many ideas in science fiction are fast becoming fact. Of course, in this case, I'm rather happy that it is very, very far away.
